Tuscany Region - 2015-2016
The PADEN Project falls within the scope of cooperation projects funded by the Tuscany Region (decree no. 4924 of 23/10/2014) to promote local development in Palestine and Israel.
The Project lead is Medina (Association for Cooperation among Peoples) in partnership with:
- Municipality of Yatta
- Municipality of Samou
- Municipality of Zababdeh
- Municipality of Taybeh
- Municipality of Pontedera
- Municipality of Pisa
- IBIMET-CNR
- DICA ETS
DICA ETS is a partner for the implementation of the Project, specifically:
- It provides its own human and instrumental resources dedicated to the Project.
- Ensures coordination with other Partners involved in the Project.
- Involves other potential actors from its own territory, as well as from the Italian territory involved in the Project, in Project activities.
Context Description:
The rooting, defense, and development of networks among citizens, local governments, institutions of formations, local Tuscan, Palestinian, and Israeli associations are the guiding thread that links the project to the long tradition of cooperation that the Tuscany Region has towards that area. Working towards shared and, where possible, common goals makes it conceivable to think and plan for a future of peaceful coexistence, a future of common development even among populations that are currently at war but look forward, hopefully, to a just peace.
All this despite conditions on the ground, which are now more adverse than ever. Adverse conditions are also recorded in Tuscany, where attention and tension, especially from public administrations, on these issues have been weakening in parallel with the increase in difficulties on the ground. It is therefore urgent to recover, revitalize, and renew the heritage of political and administrative relations, but also social and cultural ones, which have constituted the backbone of important networks of transnational partnership, and make it available for a renewed action of cooperation whose objectives are the pacification and the social, economic, and cultural development of that area.
The General Objective is to support local economic development in Palestine and Israel through the stimulation of civil society, the revitalization and renewal of transnational partnership networks that promote and assist the action of Middle Eastern municipal governments in local development policies.
The areas of interest are the municipalities of Tayibe in Israel and those of Al-Samoou, Yatta, and Zababdeh in Palestine, which have a total population of approximately 100,000 people.
