PROJECT: "STRENGTHENING HOSPITAL AND TERRITORIAL HEALTH SERVICES IN THE MATERNAL-CHILD SECTOR IN SENEGAL"

GENERAL OBJECTIVE


Strengthening the Senegalese public health service in the maternal and child sector.


 


SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES


1) Orienting the professional and organizational behavior of health workers in the maternal and child sector towards the appropriateness, and integration between hospital and local services through clinical audits and training initiatives, both in the classroom and on field, and professional exchange;


2) Providing the local services (Postes de Santé) with basic equipment that is lacking and the maternity ward of the Louga hospital with the equipment agreed with local partners


3) Strengthening the information system through a computerization program in order to support health planning in the maternal and child sector


4) Increasing the number of antenatal consultations and assisted deliveries in the areas of intervention through women's associations to raise awareness of local populations


 


EXPECTED RESULTS


- Refreshing carried out on taking charge of the pregnant woman; 16 midwives from the hospital and 16 from the territory in Louga


- Provide the maternity hospital in Louga with the equipment agreed with local partners


- The computerization of the activity registers of the health facilities of Louga was carried out


- Carried out information campaigns for the promotion of prenatal consultation and assisted birth aimed at women of childbearing age in Louga


- Food products for children at risk of malnutrition in Louga


 


ACTIVITIES


Realization of professional exchange meetings on field in Louga on the hygiene of health structures;


Refreshing was carried out in Louga for 16 hospital midwives and 16 in the area on the identification of risk factors in pregnancy (bleeding, dystocia, high blood pressure, etc.) and on reproductive health (contraception, CPN, etc.);


Purchase and supply to the Louga Hospital adequate equipment for assisting high-risk pregnancies and obstetric emergencies identified with local partners;


Introduction of software for the computerization of activity logs in the health facilities of Louga (Hospital, CdS and 5 PdS);


Support to the Association of Traditional Healers (AMPHOT) of Louga for the production of food for children at risk of malnutrition;


Implementation of an information campaign - by means of radio messages, meetings and material distribution - to promote CPN and assisted delivery and to prevent pregnancy risk factors among women of childbearing age in Louga
